Current Plans

DMV Moves

The Bronze Line fulfills key recommendations of the DMV Moves task force, comprised of elected transit leaders from DC, Maryland, and VA - First get maximum value from the existing transit network

  • Frequent, all day rail service

  • Modernized, efficient assets

Similar to metrorail upgraded signaling and automation, the Bronze Line maximizes the value of infrastructure that already exists

MARC Growth & Transformation

The Bronze Line would replace and enhance local “inner” Penn Line service. Current plans would provide at best 20-30 minute headways, far short of what is possible. Key ongoing projects like the Frederick Douglass Tunnel and associated West Baltimore station support the Bronze Line. Some changes would be required to existing projects. These could include:

  • Mt Claire Yard

  • Martins Yard

Future run through service to Virginia can be supported with Camden and Brunswick line trains once the new long bridge is completed. The low platforms and lack of electrification south of Union station will not be an issue as these conditions exist on the Brunswick and Camden lines already.

Penn Line Transit Oriented Development Strategy

With all-day frequent service, existing transit-oriented development plans are enhanced. New Carrollton becomes a true transit hub with Purple, Bronze, and Orange Line service. Odenton is an easy commute to DC or Baltimore at any time of day. West Baltimore can become a key part of a Baltimore transit network with a future Red Line connection.

Philadelphia Silverliner Replacement

Philadelphia’s South East Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) recently released request for proposals for new “Silverliner“ trains which match the needs of the Bronze line. Bronze line train acquisition should leverage this bidding by adopting confirming requirements to jump-start the acquisition of modern EMU trains.
